How to Cure Stomach Problems with your Home Grown Herbs ?

According to Genesis, God was the world’s first gardener. And what a master gardener! Plants are God’s gift to humans. The list of social and environmental benefits of growing plants is enormous and incessant. No doubt, they also have a huge potential to beautify your homes. But apart from aesthetic benefits, plants are panaceas when it comes to health problems. Historically, all medicinal preparations were derived from plants, whether in the simple form of plant parts or in the more complex form of crude extracts, mixtures, etc. Today, a substantial number of drugs are developed from plants. We will cover, through a series of posts, various day-to-day health problems that can be treated easily with your own home grown herbs. In the first of a series of posts, we are providing you with remedies for some common stomach problems.


With the modern lifestyle and eating habits, stomach problems like acidity, indigestion, loose motion and constipation are becoming common. Do you have to sacrifice the opportunity to savour the taste of your favourite dish because of these stomach problems? Do you get into embarrassing situations due to an upset stomach? Worry no more! Just grow these medicinal plants at your home and try these remedies using your home grown herbs. It can quickly help bring relief from the pain and discomfort that’s making you miserable. However if the problem persists for more than a few hours or a day, you must contact a physician.

1. Acidity


Garlic (lahsun):



Eating garlic literally has thousands of health benefits. To cure acidity, just add a pinch of rock salt to about 3 grams of garlic nectar and consume it. Drink warm water immediately after its consumption.

Mint leaves (pudina):



The yummy leaves can help you keep off several diseases. Take 7 mint leaves a grain of green cardamom. Wrap everything inside a betel leaf and consume in order to cure acidity.

Basil leaves (tulasi):



The holy leaves in Hinduism can be used to treat acidity as well. Mix 5 grams each of basil nectar and ginger nectar and dissolve it into a little warm water and consume.

Ginger (adrak):



Mix 5 grams each of ginger nectar and lemon juice with 1 gram of black pepper into a little warm water and consume.

2. Indigestion


Amla (Indian Gooseberry):



They may be extremely sour in taste but when it comes to the list of medicinal plants, Amla is always at the top. To cure indigestion, take 10 grams of amla juice and add 5 grams of crystallised sugar lumps (mishri) to it. Consume twice or thrice in a day.

Coriander leaves (dhaniya):



Apart from making your dishes delicious, these herbs can be used to treat indigestion as well.Take 10 grams each of Coriander leaves, crystallised sugar lumps (mishri) cumin seed (jeera) and crush them together. Take 3 grams of this mixture and mix in warm water. Consume during your meals, twice or thrice a day.

 3. Loose Motions:


Amla (Indian gooseberry):



No doubt, Amla had to be repeated in this list. It can cure loose motions as well. Just add a pinch of rock salt to 3 grams of amla powder. Consume it with water, several times a day till the problem lasts.

Mango leaves and Jamun (black plum) leaves:



These plants may take a considerable amount of space and other resources to be grown but they are totally worth it. They can cure several diseases of which loose motions is one.Take 5 grams each of mango leaves’ nectar and Jamun leaves’ nectar. Add a little honey to the mixture. Consume twice or thrice a day.

4. Constipation:


Lemon juice:



To treat constipation, lemon juice is "the medicine". Mix 5 grams of lemon juice, 5 grams of ginger juice and 10 grams of honey together and consume.

Lemon juice (2nd remedy):

Mix 5 grams of lemon juice in 200 grams of water.  Dissolve 10 grams of crystallised sugar to it and drink. To know more about the benefits of lemon juice, watch this video.
